After cyber terrorist Henry Gupta - working for media baron Elliot Carver - manipulates the British vessel HMS Devonshire's GPS system, sending it into Chinese waters, a stealth ship owned by Carver launches a sea drill at the ship, causing it to sink. The survivors are killed with Chinese ammunition, and one of the Devonshire's cruise missiles is used to shoot down a Chinese plane, bringing China and the UK to the brink of war.

April 13, 1997
James Bond and Chinese agent Wei Lin infiltrate media baron Ellit Carver's stealth ship. Wei Lin is captured while planting explosives. Bond captures Gupta, but Carver kills him. Bond kills Carver and destroys his ship, averting war between China and the UK.

MI6 releases statement to the press stating that Elliot Carver drowned while on a cruise on his luxury yacht in the South China Sea.
