Doc Brown travels into the future to make sure the space time continuum is back to normal. The plot of the ride is that Doc Brown has invited tourists to the Institute of Future Technology to travel one day into the future in his latest invention, an eight-passenger convertible DeLorean Time Machine. First though, Doc travels to 2015 in the original DeLorean to make sure the space time continuum is back to normal, while his other Institute scientists travel to 1885 and 1955. However, in 1955, Biff Tannen stows away on the IFT scientists' time machine, hitching a ride back to the present-day Institute.
